Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi want to foster Lindsay Lohan, it has been reported.
The US talk show host and her actress partner are said to be concerned Lindsay’s life is spiralling out of control.
Lohan, who has completed three stints in rehab, has enjoyed several wild nights out recently, prompting claims she could be going off the rails.
Her father Michael Lohan has publicly claimed she is addicted to prescription medication, and even said he had considered kidnapping her and forcing her to get treatment. He has released a number of taped phone conversations in what he claims is a desperate bid to force his 23-year-old daughter to get help. In one, Lindsay cries that no-one loves her, while in another Lindsay’s mother Dina admits Lindsay self-harms, and claims she was dating Heath Ledger when he died of an accidental overdose of prescription medication last year.
DeGeneres and De Rossi are desperate to help Lindsay get her life back on track, and think her spending time with them could help her recover. “Ellen’s heart is breaking for Lindsay – she’s had her on her show and likes her very much.
So, she talked her idea over with De Rossi, saying, ‘We can watch over Lindsay, get her straight and send her back out into the world,’ ” a source told an American magazine.
“After consulting a drugs counsellor, Ellen phoned Lindsay and said, ‘You’ve got to get yourself together – you have so much to offer. Come live with us and we’ll take care of you.’ ”
Dina was apparently happy with the idea. It has been claimed she agrees Lindsay needs help, but is wary of backing Michael in case it drives Lindsay away. Michael is said to be less keen on the idea, as he thinks Lindsay’s family should be the ones to support her.
The source added: “Lindsay finally declined the offer, telling Elle she’s going to do OK on her own. But Ellen’s offer still stands, and it might become more appealing if the walls close in on Lindsay – whose biggest fear is that Dina will get conservatorship over her and force her into rehab.”
